Joe Maher stands ready to help good people in difficult times.

Joe served as an El Paso County, Colorado prosecutor for five years prior to founding Maher & Maher Law. In his role as a prosecutor, Joe served as a front-line supervisor tasked with training and mentoring deputy district attorneys prosecuting DUI cases. Joe represented the District Attorney’s Office on the El Paso County Veterans Treatment Court team and was a member of the District Attorney’s vehicular homicide team.

Mr. Maher has focused his private practice on defending clients charged with alcohol related driving crimes. He defends his clients with expertise, integrity, and vigor always focused on achieving the results his clients need. Joe believes there is no replacement for a trial lawyer’s ability to analyze a case from the perspective of a prosecutor and a defense attorney. Joe has developed these analytical capabilities having tried more than 60 criminal jury trials as a deputy district attorney and private defense counsel.

Not only is Joe an accomplished trial lawyer but he has worked intentionally to develop elite DUI defense capabilities: He has successfully completed the 24-hour National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Detection course and the NHTSA Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course. This is key stone training for Colorado’s specialized DUI law enforcement officers. He has successfully completed the Axion Laboratories Forensic Chromatography course in Chicago, IL. Joe is a member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, the National College of DUI Defense, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the Colorado Bar Association, and the El Paso County Bar Association Prior to becoming an attorney, Joe earned the title Marine Officer. Joe attained the rank of Captain, commanding two platoons and a company of Marines during three deployments to Iraq from 2004 to 2008. He was awarded the Marine Corps Association’s Chambers award for leadership following his company command tour. Joe’s experiences as a trial attorney, military officer, legislative staff member, and combat veteran have forged an unapologetic and unwavering respect for the U.S. Constitution and an ardent belief that the rights enshrined within it must be defended at the level of the individual citizen.
