Dr. Michael Kunkel is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, practicing at Pikes Peak Oral Surgery. He maintains active privileges at all four hospitals in Colorado Springs. This includes covering calls for facial trauma and severe facial infections.

As a dental student at the University of Minnesota, I realized that I had a passion for the science and art that this surgical field incorporated. After receiving my Dental Degree in 2008, I went on to complete a 4-year residency program at Indiana University Medical Center, where the focus of my training included surgical removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant placement, treatment of facial trauma and fractures, management of oral and facial pathology, and comprehensive training in intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. As Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, our training allows us to safely treat many nervous patients who otherwise would avoid receiving necessary care due to fear and anxiety. These anesthesia techniques also allow us to comfortably treat patients in need of dental implants or the bone grafting and procedures required to prepare for dental implants.

When a patient comes into my office, my goal is to try to understand the experience from their perspective and to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible. Let’s face it; no one enjoys having a surgical procedure. At Pikes Peak Oral Surgery, our goal is to make sure that every patient experience is completed in a caring and comfortable environment by a surgeon and staff, who truly care about their patients.
