Betty S. Kim, MD, FACS, is a board certified cardiac surgeon at Penrose Hospital. With over 20 years of cardiac surgery experience, she has performed over 1600 heart surgeries during her time in Colorado Springs. She performs the full scope of adult cardiac surgery to include aortic reconstruction and minimally invasive valves. Dr. Kim is an honor graduate of Yale College and Yale University School of Medicine. She completed her cardiothoracic fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and advanced cardiac surgical training at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kim is the Medical Director of Cardiothoracic surgery at Penrose Hospital and on the Board of the El Paso County Medical Society. She is the American Heart Association 2021 Colorado Springs Woman of Impact. In addition, she has won numerous patient-nominated awards demonstrating the highest level of compassion. She served in the US Army Medical Corps achieving rank of Lieutenant Colonel. This is Dr. Kim’s fourth consecutive year earning the Top Doc title.
She is a patron of the local arts and devoted sponsor of Air Force Academy cadets. She is a passionate supporter of the Humane Society of Pikes Peak. Her favorite pastime is hiking with Cheju, her rescue dog and her physician husband.
