Tim Bussy

Nationally recognized and frequently looked to as an authority in complex litigation, forensic science and trial advocacy. Tim Bussey has long been a prominent attorney and fights when freedom, futures, or restoration are on the line. He learned that in the U.S. Air Force as a Judge Advocate, where every case carried real consequences for someone's career, freedom, or future. In that high-pressure military environment, discipline, precision, and command of the facts were non-negotiable, principles that still guide him today.

Tim Bussey was first Colorado attorney to earn the prestigious American Chemical Society Lawyer-Scientist designation, Tim's forensic work has shaped legal standards nationwide. His exposure of systemic blood-alcohol testing failures at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Colorado Springs Metro Forensic Laboratory played a key role in Bullcoming v. New Mexico (2011), where Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg cited his findings in a U.S. Supreme Court decision redefining evidentiary rules across the country.

For more than 34 years, Tim has delivered decisive results in criminal defense and personal injury. He successfully argued a landmark "Make My Day" murder case before the Colorado Supreme Court, strengthening protections for the innocent. A former Deputy District Attorney for El Paso and Teller counties, he has tried cases at every level from courts-martial to high level District Court cases and has argued and won cases before both the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court.

Tim Bussey is fierce advocate in civil cases for those injured. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, has secured numerous seven-figure settlements, and has been named a Top 100 Trial Attorney by the National Trial Lawyers Association since 2007. Recognized in Colorado Super Lawyers and Colorado Springs Magazine, he holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell and co-authored Utilizing Forensic Science in Criminal Cases, Defending DUI Vehicular Homicide, and the Colorado DUI Defense Manual, widely used by attorneys and legal educators.

A life member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, Tim also serves as a sustaining member and former Colorado delegate for the National College of DUI Defense, is a former board member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, a Trial Lawyers College graduate, and a faculty member of Trial Skills University. Outside court, he mentors attorneys, supports legal aid and Alzheimer�s Association fundraisers, and coaches youth basketball.
