Joseph Maher

Joseph (“Joe”) Maher is a leading Colorado Springs DUI and criminal defense attorney and the founding partner of Maher & Maher Law PC. Before entering private practice, Joe served for five years as a prosecutor in El Paso County, where he trained DUI prosecutors and served on the Vehicular Homicide team. He has tried more than 70 jury trials as both a prosecutor and a defense lawyer, giving him the ability to thoroughly assess a DUI or Criminal case from both sides of the courtroom.

Joe brings a rare set of DUI litigation skills to the courtroom for his clients. He is one of only four attorneys in Colorado to earn the prestigious ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist designation, a title earned by lawyers who have developed advanced scientific competence in forensic alcohol and drug testing. This elite credential reflects Joe’s deep training in DUI blood testing science. Further, Joe has completed the same rigorous training that advanced DUI enforcement police officers must master — this includes completion of the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) participant and instructor courses as well as the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) Course.

Finally, Joe just downright enjoys DUI investigation, negotiation, litigation, and trial. Joe’s unique level of skill, experience, and desire make him a highly effective advocate for his clients.

Before becoming an attorney, Joe served as a United States Marine Corps Infantry Officer, attaining the rank of Captain and leading Infantry Marines through three deployments to Iraq. Following his company command tour in Iraq, Joe received the Marine Corps Association’s Chambers Award for leadership. Joe’s experience as a troop leader in the military and his unwavering respect for the U.S. Constitution shape the disciplined, client-centered approach he brings to every case.

Outside the courtroom, Joe is devoted to his wife, Kimberly, and his four sons.
