Dr. Betty Kim

Dr. Kim is a board certified cardiac surgeon with CTSA ( Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Associates). She is the senior surgeon with 25+ years of cardiac surgery experience, who practices the whole scope of adult cardiac surgery (valves/TAVR, coronary bypasses, aortic aneurysms, high risk complex procedures). However, her passion and primary focus is valve surgery. Mentoring junior surgeons, particularly in mitral valve surgery, is another aspect of her practice. Recognized for her expertise, she is a regional speaker for Edwards Lifesciences, a national leader in heart valves.Her training background includes Cleveland Clinic, Harvard, Yale and Walter Reed. She achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served as a CT surgeon with the 21st Combat Support Hospital in Operation Iraqi Freedom.In addition to being the Medical Director of CTSA at Penrose Hospital, she is involved in multiple committees in the CommonSpirit health system to promote patient safety and quality outcomes.Her practice philosophy is to use her surgical skills to perform the best operation for every patient, to extend life and improve quality of life. She believes in staying current with surgical techniques and in remaining “state of the art.” She also believes that the heart team approach and collaboration with cardiology are what make her practice a success.CTSA has offices in Colorado Springs and Denver.
