Kidney disease is the ninth leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 40 million Americans have some form of chronic kidney disease (about ten percent of the adult population). 

Of the approximately 700,000 Americans who have complete kidney failure, known as end-stage renal disease (ESRD), about half a million individuals live on dialysis and 200,000 live with a functioning transplant. However, nationwide, more than 100,000 people are still waiting for kidney transplants, the organ most in need, including over 1800 people in Colorado.

The physicians at Pikes Peak Nephrology Associates specialize in diagnosing and treating all aspects of acute and chronic kidney disease. We provide acute dialysis and consultation for all the critical-care, medical, and surgical units at every hospital in Colorado Springs. We provide inpatient care in Salida and Alamosa through their innovative telemedicine program. We also support patients in Pueblo, Alamosa, and Salida who require outpatient care. We educate and treat patients throughout Colorado who perform dialysis at home, and we partner with numerous transplant centers to manage patients who have undergone kidney transplantation.

The past year has been remarkable in many respects. While COVID-19 has presented challenges to us all, it has been especially difficult for patients who suffer from kidney disease. These patients have a significantly elevated risk of developing severe COVID illness and have required an increased level of vigilance with respect to the virus. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our patients and staff for their remarkable efforts throughout the pandemic.
